There are agronomic practices that must be fulfilled in order for chia seeds to be considered organic. A third party must certify the field as organic meaning that there are no pesticide residues in the land that could possibly contaminate the chia seeds. Then the chia seeds are planted into the soil. The chia seeds must be free from any pesticide and only organic fertilizers may be used during the growing cycle. Then the chia seeds are harvested by hand and dried naturally with sun rays.
